For a specific course or reading list: Anki or Quizlet

A general-purpose study tool can make sense when you already have the material. Anki’s deck and review controls suit people who want to shape their own cards. Quizlet organizes study around sets and activities.

The choice changes your work: instead of letting a vocabulary app curate the lesson, you select or create the material. Check a sample set for accurate definitions and useful context before investing time in it.

For exam vocabulary: investigate Magoosh’s focused builder

Magoosh Vocabulary Builder presents a defined set of leveled words and example sentences. It is a candidate when a bounded exam-oriented collection is more useful than open-ended discovery. Vocabulary practice is only one part of exam preparation; choose additional resources for the other skills your test requires.

Compare the next study session, not the biggest library

Try a task you will repeat: choose a word, understand an example, save it, and return for review. If the app’s selection already matches your level, another library may not solve the real problem. If you keep ignoring suggested words, a personal list or a different selection method may be worth trying.

Before moving your vocabulary routine

Check current plans and device support, then spend a few sessions with one candidate. Save any material you need to keep. A new subscription does not transfer saved words or learning history from WordUp, and this guide does not claim an automatic import path.
