Word of the day on Apple Watch
Neologics shows English words in an Apple Watch complication. Set it up from the iPhone app, choose a refresh setting, and add it to a compatible watch face. Rectangular placements include a short meaning; smaller ones show less.
For a word-of-the-day rotation, select Daily under Refresh rate. Use a rectangular complication if you want the meaning on the watch face. Apple Watch may adjust refresh timing to preserve battery life.
What appears on your watch
A complication displays information from an app on your watch face. Neologics supports rectangular, inline, and circular placements. The rectangular version shows a word and a short meaning.
Tap the Neologics complication to open the corresponding word in the watch app. There you can read the definition and, when the word has one, an example sentence. For a fuller explanation or a practice session, return to Neologics on iPhone.

Install Neologics on both devices
The current Neologics listing requires iOS 18 or later on iPhone and watchOS 11 or later on Apple Watch. Pair the watch with your iPhone and install Neologics on both. The Apple Watch app on iPhone is where you manage the watch installation and its faces.
Open Neologics on iPhone and choose Apple Watch on Profile. The page shows whether a watch is paired, whether Neologics is installed, and whether its words are up to date. If it asks you to install the watch app, finish that step before adding the complication.
Choose words and a refresh setting
On the Apple Watch page in Neologics, open Categories to choose the vocabulary you want to see. Favorites shows words you have saved. If Favorites is empty, save some words or choose another category.
Open Refresh rate and choose Daily for a word-of-the-day rotation. Other settings are Every 30 minutes, Every hour, and Every 6 hours. Apple Watch may adjust refresh timing to preserve battery life.
The watch has its own category and refresh choices. You can keep a different selection in your iPhone Home Screen or Lock Screen widget. Neologics is free to download with optional Pro access; the app shows access options for paid topics and other features.
Add the complication to a watch face
Use the Face Gallery in the Apple Watch app on iPhone. A face such as Modular offers a rectangular position with room for a meaning. The available positions and labels depend on the face and software version.
The Set as watch face button inside Neologics also leads you through setup. Neologics supplies the vocabulary complication; you choose the Apple Watch face and position it appears in.
- Open the Apple Watch app on your iPhone and tap Face Gallery.
- Choose Modular, or another face with a compatible complication position.
- Tap a complication position, such as Middle on Modular, and choose Neologics from the available apps.
- Finish customizing the face, then tap Add to Watch.
- Look at the face on your watch and tap Neologics to open its word.

Choose a complication size
Use a rectangular position to see a short definition on the watch face. Inline and circular positions have less room; tap the complication to open the definition in the watch app.
| Placement | Information at a glance |
|---|---|
| Rectangular | The word, part of speech when available, and a short meaning |
| Inline | The word in a line of text |
| Circular | A book icon, with a word label where the face displays it |
If the word or complication is missing
Open the Apple Watch page in Neologics on iPhone and read its status. Check pairing and installation first, then confirm that the selected categories contain words. If Favorites is empty, save some words or choose a category with content.
Open Neologics on the watch as well. If it asks you to open the iPhone app or choose categories, follow that message and return to the watch. If Neologics is missing from a complication picker, check that the watch app is installed and try a position that supports one of the three placements above.
For a problem that persists, contact Neologics support with your iPhone and watch models, software versions, and the face and position you tried. A description of the status message helps identify which setup step needs attention.
Review the word on iPhone
Tap the complication to check the definition on your watch. To read more or practice, open Neologics on iPhone. You can write a sentence with the word or save it to review later.
Change the watch categories in the iPhone app when you want a different selection of words.
