How much preparation do you want to do?
Anki can fit a specialist reading list, a course, or a very particular kind of prompt. That flexibility is valuable when you know how you want to study. It also requires choices about what goes on a card and how much information to include.
Neologics provides curated word explanations, including examples, origins, and memory aids. You can begin with prepared material and add personal words as you encounter them. Consider this approach if creating a deck is the step that usually prevents you from getting started.
A good vocabulary prompt needs a clear task
Whichever tool you choose, separate recognizing a word from producing it. A prompt that shows the word can ask you to explain its meaning. A sentence with a missing word can ask you to retrieve the word itself. Those are different practice tasks.
For example, write a sentence from your own reading context, remove the target word, and check whether the remaining clues make the intended answer clear. If several answers work, refine the prompt. Adding more cards will not fix an ambiguous question.
Choose the workflow you can maintain
Anki is a strong candidate if custom decks and detailed control are requirements. Neologics is worth trying if you want word discovery and explanations alongside a simpler personal collection on iPhone. Neither tool can guarantee retention merely by scheduling a review.
Try creating five personal entries and returning to them after a break. Notice how much time you spend preparing versus practicing. If you already have an Anki deck that works well, this page does not promise an automatic migration into Neologics; keep your material and verify compatibility before making changes.
